Königsberger Klopse

Ingredients

  • 500 g Minced meat (beef or pork)
  • 100 g Stale bread
  • 1 onion , finely chopped
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 liter Water
  • 50 g Butter
  • 50 g Flour
  • 2 tbsp Capers
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

1. In a bowl, combine the minced meat, soaked bread, onion, egg, and spices. Mix well until fully combined.

2. Form the mixture into small meatballs and set aside.

3. In a pot, bring water to a boil and gently add the meatballs. Cook until they float to the surface, then simmer for a few minutes.

4. Remove the meatballs and set aside, reserving the cooking liquid.

5. In a separate pan, melt butter and sauté flour to create a roux. Gradually add the reserved cooking liquid while stirring to avoid lumps.

6. Once the sauce thickens, add capers, lemon juice, and season to taste.

7. Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer for a few more minutes to heat through.

8. Serve hot, garnished with additional capers if desired.
