Rouladen
Ingredients
- 4 slices Beef (thinly cut)
- 4 tsp Mustard
- 4 slices Bacon
- 1 Onion (sliced)
- 4 Pickles (spear cut)
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 cups Beef broth
Instructions
1. Lay out the beef slices on a clean surface and season with salt and pepper.
2. Spread mustard evenly over each slice of beef.
3. Place a slice of bacon, a few onion rings, and a pickle spear on each beef slice.
4. Roll the beef tightly around the filling and secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
5. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and brown the rouladen on all sides.
6. Remove the rouladen and set aside. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions until translucent.
7. Add beef broth and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
8. Return the rouladen to the skillet, cover, and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours until tender.
9. Once cooked, remove the rouladen and let rest. Thicken the sauce if desired by simmering it further.
10. Slice the rouladen and serve with the sauce over the top.
